Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment released Back to the Future Part II in November 1989, continuing one of the decade's most beloved science fiction franchises. Directed by Robert Zemeckis, the film pushed practical and visual effects technology to deliver a vision of 2015 that became a cultural touchstone. Its ambitious dual-timeline narrative and seamless continuation of the original made it a landmark of late-eighties Hollywood filmmaking.
