Universal Pictures released Back to the Future Part II in November 1989, the eagerly anticipated follow-up to Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale's 1985 original. Expanding the story across multiple timelines, the film became one of the defining science fiction comedies of its decade and remains a touchstone of late-eighties popular cinema.
