FILM NOTES

Universal Pictures released Back to the Future Part II in November 1989, reuniting director Robert Zemeckis and producer Bob Gale for the middle chapter of their time-travel trilogy. Following one of the most successful comedies of the decade, the sequel pushed further into practical effects and production design, imagining 2015 with a detail and wit that made it a cultural touchstone. It remains a defining entry in late-1980s blockbuster filmmaking.

This cell, titled DeLorean, captures a close-up of the time machine's wheel hub during what reads as a departure or arrival sequence — steam, sparks, and the signature blue flame exhaust visible against a dark background. Across three continuous moments in the same shot, the practical effects unfold in miniature: the dissipating vapor and cold light that made the DeLorean one of cinema's most recognizable vehicles.
