Universal Pictures released Back to the Future Part II in November 1989, the highly anticipated follow-up to the 1985 original. Directed by Robert Zemeckis and produced by Steven Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment, the film sent its characters across multiple time periods, from a vision of 2015 to an alternate 1985 and back to 1955. It remains a defining science fiction comedy of its era and a cornerstone of late-1980s popular cinema.
