FILM NOTES

Warner Bros. released Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in November 2001, adapting J.K. Rowling's debut novel for the screen under director Chris Columbus. Shot on 35mm with extensive location work at Alnwick Castle and the Oxford colleges, the film established the visual grammar of an eight-picture franchise and introduced a generation of audiences to Hogwarts. Its theatrical run became one of the highest-grossing of the decade.

This cell, titled Marty and Doc by the operator, captures a young student dressed in the distinctive red robes of Hogwarts against the richly detailed stonework of the castle interior, with additional figures visible in the background below. The 35mm frame preserves the warm, textured look that Columbus and cinematographer John Seale brought to the production.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading in partnership with National Film Vault, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
