FILM NOTES

Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment released Back to the Future Part II in November 1989, reuniting director Robert Zemeckis and writer Bob Gale for the long-awaited sequel to their 1985 blockbuster. Filmed back-to-back with Part III, the production pushed practical and optical effects to their limits, imagining 2015 with hoverboards, self-lacing shoes, and layered timelines. It remains a landmark of late-eighties studio filmmaking and a touchstone of American popular culture.

This cell captures Marty and Doc outside a brick building marked 220, the two figures mid-interaction near a doorway with partial signage visible in the background. Across three consecutive frames from the same continuous shot, the pairing at the heart of the entire trilogy is preserved in a quiet, unguarded moment between takes of the larger story.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading in partnership with National Film Vault, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
