FILM NOTES

Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment released Back to the Future Part II in November 1989, reuniting director Robert Zemeckis and writer Bob Gale with the cast of their 1985 blockbuster. Arriving at the height of practical-effects filmmaking, the sequel pushed production design and visual ambition further than its predecessor, imagining multiple timelines across past, present, and an alternate 1985.

This cell captures three consecutive frames of the exterior marquee for Biff Tannen's Pleasure Paradise Casino, the garish centerpiece of the film's dystopian alternate Hill Valley. The sign blazes with marquee lighting, and a figure is visible beneath the signage. The repetition of the frame across three cells documents a sustained moment from one of the production's most elaborately conceived set pieces.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading in partnership with National Film Vault, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
