FILM NOTES

Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment released Back to the Future Part II in November 1989, reuniting director Robert Zemeckis and writer Bob Gale with their cast for a sequel that pushed the original's time-travel premise into bold new territory. Shooting on 35mm, cinematographer Dean Cundey gave the film a polished, effects-driven look that made it one of the most technically ambitious studio productions of its year.

This cell, titled Marlene McFly, captures a quiet interior moment on a staircase. Lorraine Baines and Marlene McFly share the frame across three nearly identical exposures, the figure in the white period blouse leaning toward the railing as hair falls forward — a brief, domestic pause preserved in 35mm silver.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading in partnership with National Film Vault, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
