FILM NOTES

Universal Pictures released Back to the Future Part II in November 1989, reuniting director Robert Zemeckis and producer Bob Gale for the long-awaited continuation of their 1985 blockbuster. Filmed back-to-back with Part III, the sequel pushed practical and optical effects to their limits while expanding the franchise's mythology across multiple timelines. It remains a defining artifact of late-1980s studio filmmaking and popular science fiction.

This cell, titled Marty and Doc, captures Dr. Emmett Brown and Marty McFly together in what appears to be an interior setting surrounded by keyboards and electronic equipment — almost certainly a lab or control environment. The three frames follow a continuous shot, preserving a quiet moment of collaboration between the two central figures of the entire trilogy.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading in partnership with National Film Vault, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
