Universal Pictures released Back to the Future Part II in November 1989, directed by Robert Zemeckis and produced by Steven Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment. The sequel arrived with enormous anticipation following the original's massive success and expanded the story across three time periods, most memorably its vision of 2015 Hill Valley. It remains a defining science fiction comedy of its era and a landmark of practical and visual effects filmmaking.
