Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment released Back to the Future Part II in November 1989, returning audiences to the time-traveling world Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale had introduced four years earlier. The sequel expanded the mythology of the original, sending its characters into a then-imagined 2015 and back through familiar events. It remains a defining piece of late-1980s blockbuster filmmaking and a touchstone of popular science fiction cinema.
