FILM NOTES

Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment released Back to the Future Part II in November 1989, reuniting director Robert Zemeckis and producer Bob Gale with one of the most beloved science-fiction comedies of the decade. The film pushed its time-travel premise into bold new territory, depicting a vision of 2015 that became a cultural touchstone. Shot on 35mm, it remains a landmark of practical effects filmmaking and studio blockbuster craft.

This cell, titled Clock Tower, captures three successive frames from an aerial night sequence above Hill Valley, documenting the progression of the DeLorean's signature blue-white energy discharge as a dark vortex opens across the sky. The three-frame sequence traces the effect from initial spark through full portal formation, preserving a rare continuous glimpse of one of cinema's most recognizable visual moments on original 35mm film.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading in partnership with National Film Vault, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
