FILM NOTES

Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment released Back to the Future Part II in November 1989, reuniting director Robert Zemeckis and writer Bob Gale with the cast of their 1985 blockbuster. Expanding the original film's mythology across three time periods, the sequel pushed practical and visual effects into new territory and became one of the defining science fiction comedies of its decade, cementing the franchise as a cultural touchstone.

This cell, titled Marty McFly, captures Marty amid the neon-saturated streets of 2015 Hill Valley, his red puffer vest immediately recognizable against the layered futuristic backdrop of vehicles, light, and atmospheric smoke. The three-frame sequence holds a sustained moment from one of the film's most visually inventive settings, offering a clean look at the production design that made the future sequences so memorable.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading in partnership with National Film Vault, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
