FILM NOTES

Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment released Back to the Future Part II in November 1989, reuniting director Robert Zemeckis and writer Bob Gale with their cast for an ambitious sequel that pushed the original film's time-travel premise into uncharted territory. Shooting on 35mm, the production built an elaborate vision of 2015 Hill Valley that became one of cinema's most recognizable depictions of the future, cementing the trilogy's place in popular culture.

This cell, titled Marty and Griff, captures the tense confrontation inside the Cafe 80s diner where Griff Tannen bears down on Marty McFly Jr. before Marty McFly himself steps into the encounter. The frames trace the moment the scene shifts from son to father, a quiet pivot on which the entire 2015 storyline turns.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading in partnership with National Film Vault, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
