FILM NOTES

Back to the Future Part II arrived in November 1989 from Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment, the long-anticipated follow-up to Robert Zemeckis's 1985 phenomenon. Where the original film worked as a contained time-travel comedy, the sequel expanded into a sprawling, self-referential adventure across multiple timelines. Its vision of 2015 became a cultural touchstone, and its structural ambition — looping back through the original film's events — was unlike anything mainstream Hollywood had attempted at the time.

This three-frame run captures Marty alongside Griff, Biff's grandson and primary antagonist of the 2015 sequences, in what appears to be an interior confrontation. The patterned jacket visible on the figure is consistent with costuming from those future-set scenes. Holding consecutive frames from a single shot, this cell offers a rare sense of motion preserved in still form — a small window into one of the sequel's most visually distinctive encounters.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading in partnership with National Film Vault, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
