FILM NOTES

Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment released Back to the Future Part II in November 1989, reuniting director Robert Zemeckis and writer Bob Gale with the cast of their 1985 phenomenon. The sequel pushed into ambitious territory, staging its second act in a satirical vision of 2015 Hill Valley that has since become one of cinema's most discussed portraits of the future. Shooting on 35mm, the production built a dense visual world that rewards close inspection at the frame level.

This cell, titled Marty and Griff, captures three consecutive frames from the Cafe 80s confrontation sequence. Griff Tannen bears down on Marty McFly inside the diner, his spiked jacket filling the frame against Marty's colorful 2015 vest. The repeated frames document a single charged moment from multiple exposures, offering a rare look at the rhythm of the scene as it passed through the camera.
