Universal Pictures released Back to the Future Part II in November 1989, reuniting director Robert Zemeckis and producer Bob Gale with the cast of their 1985 blockbuster. The sequel expanded the franchise's mythology by sending its characters into both the future and the past, and its vision of 2015 became a cultural touchstone.
