Rob Zombie's Halloween, released by The Weinstein Company and Dimension Films in August 2007, arrived as one of the more ambitious reimaginings of John Carpenter's 1978 original. Rather than a straightforward remake, Zombie expanded the mythology of Michael Myers, giving the killer a detailed backstory while retaining the suburban dread of the source material. The film performed strongly at the box office and sparked renewed conversation about the slasher genre's place in contemporary horror.
