Lionsgate Films released The Punisher in April 2004, bringing Marvel's vigilante antihero back to the screen after a 1989 adaptation. Directed by Jonathan Hensleigh and starring Thomas Jane in the title role, the film occupies a particular moment in superhero cinema, arriving just before the genre's dominant phase and reflecting a grittier, R-rated sensibility that distinguished it from contemporaries. It developed a devoted cult following on home video.
This cell captures three sequential frames from the Punisher Logo sequence, presenting the iconic skull motif rendered in stark white against black with horizontal motion trails extending across the frame. The progression across all three images suggests an animated or optically treated title treatment, the figure shifting subtly between exposures in a manner characteristic of stylised 35mm title design from this period.
