FILM NOTES

Lions Gate Films released The Punisher in April 2004, adapting Marvel's long-running vigilante comic for a post-9/11 audience hungry for morally complicated action. Directed by Jonathan Hensleigh, the film starred Thomas Jane in a grounded, revenge-driven interpretation of Frank Castle that distinguished itself from the 1989 Dolph Lundgren version. Shooting on location in Tampa gave the production a gritty, sun-bleached texture unusual for the genre.

This cell captures Frank Castle during the Pontiac GTO bridge burnout sequence, one of the film's pivotal confrontation moments. Across three frames, Castle is seen in dark clothing with a long firearm raised, the figure partially consumed by motion and overexposure — a fitting artifact from a scene built entirely around controlled aggression and forward momentum.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading in partnership with National Film Vault, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
