FILM NOTES

Lionsgate Films released The Punisher in April 2004, adapting Marvel's long-running vigilante comic for a post-9/11 audience hungry for morally complicated action cinema. Directed by Jonathan Hensleigh, the film starred Thomas Jane as the grieving federal agent turned one-man army, and represented a grittier, more grounded approach to superhero storytelling than the era's dominant blockbuster formula. It holds a distinct place in the early wave of Marvel adaptations that preceded the unified cinematic universe.

This three-frame cell, titled Frank Castle - Detonation, captures consecutive moments from a single shot bathed in warm golden light against a soft bokeh exterior background. Frank Castle is visible across all three frames, weapon in hand, the slight exposure variation between frames preserving the organic texture of 35mm photography. Together they document a charged transitional moment as Frank Castle becomes The Punisher.
