Lionsgate Films released The Punisher in April 2004, bringing Marvel's most uncompromising vigilante to screens during a period when comic adaptations were still finding their commercial footing. Thomas Jane's portrayal of Frank Castle offered a grittier, more grounded interpretation than the 1989 version, leaning into revenge thriller territory rather than superhero spectacle.
