FILM NOTES

Lionsgate released The Punisher in April 2004, positioning it as a harder-edged entry in the early wave of Marvel adaptations that preceded the unified cinematic universe. Directed by Jonathan Hensleigh, the film leaned into its R-rating and grindhouse sensibility, drawing from the MAX comics run. It occupies an honest place in the timeline of Marvel on screen.

This cell, titled Castle & Dave by the operator, captures a quiet interior exchange between Frank Castle and Dave, with Mickey Duka present in the sequence. The three-frame run holds a consistent framing across adjacent images, preserving the rhythm of the scene as it unfolds in that dimly lit shared space.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading in partnership with National Film Vault, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
