FILM NOTES

The Nightmare Before Christmas arrived in October 1993 under the Touchstone Pictures banner, produced by Tim Burton and directed by Henry Selick. A landmark in stop-motion animation, the film demonstrated that the painstaking frame-by-frame technique could sustain a full theatrical feature with genuine emotional depth. Its gothic aesthetic and Danny Elfman score found an audience that has only grown in the decades since, cementing the film as a defining work of 1990s fantasy cinema.

This cell, titled Zero, captures the beloved ghost dog in three near-identical frames from what appears to be a sustained close composition. Zero's wispy, translucent form floats against warm amber tones, his luminous pumpkin nose providing the focal point of each frame. The repetition across the strip gives the sequence a quiet, meditative quality, preserving a small but resonant moment belonging entirely to this singular character.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading in partnership with National Film Vault, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
