Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas was released by Touchstone Pictures in October 1993, produced through Burton's collaboration with director Henry Selick and composer Danny Elfman. A landmark in stop-motion animation, the film brought a distinctly gothic sensibility to mainstream holiday cinema and established an enduring cultural footprint that few animated features of its era have matched.

This cell, titled Captured Santa Claus, documents one of the film's most dramatically charged sequences: Santa Claus confined within Oogie Boogie's subterranean lair. Across three frames, the scene shifts through the space's signature visual elements — the carnival-dark atmosphere, pipe-organ structures, roulette-table floor, and strings of colored lights — with Santa rendered in alternating warm and cool lighting that underscores his vulnerability within that unsettling environment.
