FILM NOTES

Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas was released by Touchstone Pictures in October 1993, produced through Burton's collaboration with director Henry Selick and composer Danny Elfman. The stop-motion animated feature represented a landmark in the technique's theatrical ambitions, blending gothic sensibility with musical storytelling in a way that earned the film enduring cultural standing well beyond its initial release.

This 35mm cell, titled Santa Claus and Santa Jack, captures a pivotal confrontation from the film's second act. Across three consecutive frames, Jack Skellington — dressed in his borrowed Santa costume — looms over the bound and sacked Santa Claus. The repeated composition underscores the scene's uneasy tension, preserving on film the precise moment where Jack's well-intentioned scheme reaches its most visually striking expression.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading in partnership with National Film Vault, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
