FILM NOTES

Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas was released by Touchstone Pictures in October 1993, produced through Burton's collaboration with director Henry Selick and Disney. The film brought stop-motion animation to mainstream audiences with unusual ambition, blending gothic imagery with musical storytelling. Its handcrafted aesthetic, requiring years of painstaking puppet construction and frame-by-frame photography, distinguished it from contemporary animation and earned it lasting cultural recognition.

This cell, titled Sally and Santa Jack, captures three consecutive frames from an intimate scene shared between Sally and Jack Skellington. The strip is oriented upside-down on the original 35mm print, a detail that adds documentary interest to the piece. The close framing draws the viewer directly into one of the film's quieter emotional moments between its two central figures.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading in partnership with National Film Vault, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
