FILM NOTES

Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas was released by Touchstone Pictures in October 1993, produced through Burton's collaboration with director Henry Selick and composer Danny Elfman. A landmark in stop-motion animation, the film brought a distinctly gothic sensibility to mainstream audiences and established itself as a perennial classic straddling Halloween and Christmas culture. Its handcrafted aesthetic, built frame by painstaking frame, gave the finished work a texture that remains visually singular decades later.

This cell, titled Sally and Santa Jack, captures consecutive frames from one of the film's most emotionally resonant passages. Jack Skellington's elongated silhouette dominates the low-angle composition while Sally remains close beside him, the dark atmospheric background drawing the two figures into quiet intimacy. Holding three frames from the same scene, the cell offers a rare sense of continuity from a story built on longing and connection.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading in partnership with National Film Vault, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
