FILM NOTES

The Nightmare Before Christmas arrived in October 1993 under the Touchstone Pictures banner, produced by Tim Burton and directed by Henry Selick. Shot entirely in stop-motion animation, the film represented a landmark achievement in the craft, requiring years of painstaking frame-by-frame work. Its blend of gothic imagery with a genuinely affecting story found both critical appreciation and a devoted audience that has only grown in the decades since.

This cell, titled Santa Claus and Santa Jack, captures three consecutive frames from the pivotal confrontation in which Jack Skellington, wearing his self-styled Santa costume, stands over a bound Santa Claus amid the cluttered shadows of Halloween Town. The near-identical frames reflect the deliberate pacing of stop-motion work and preserve a charged dramatic moment between the film's two most iconic figures.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading in partnership with National Film Vault, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
