FILM NOTES

The Nightmare Before Christmas was released by Touchstone Pictures in October 1993, produced through Tim Burton's vision and directed by Henry Selick. Shot entirely in stop-motion animation, the film required the creation of thousands of individual puppet positions, making every frame a discrete physical construction. Its blend of gothic imagery and musical storytelling found an audience that has only grown across decades, cementing its place as a landmark in American animation history.

This three-frame cell, titled Santa Claus and Santa Jack, captures Jack Skellington looming over a bound Santa Claus against the shadowed, cluttered environment of Halloween Town. The sequential frames show the subtle positional shifts inherent to stop-motion work, preserving the handcrafted nature of the medium. Together they document a pivotal confrontation between the two figures at the story's dramatic center.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading in partnership with National Film Vault, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
