FILM NOTES

Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas was released by Touchstone Pictures in October 1993, produced through Burton's collaboration with director Henry Selick and Disney. Shot entirely in stop-motion animation, the film represented a landmark achievement in the medium, requiring years of painstaking frame-by-frame work and establishing a visual language that continues to influence animation and design. Its blend of gothic atmosphere with musical storytelling earned it enduring cultural status well beyond its initial release.

This three-frame sequence captures Sally in continuous motion, her patchwork dress clearly legible across each successive exposure as she descends through a darkened interior space framed by wooden beams overhead. The sequential nature of the strip preserves the illusion of movement as it existed in the original camera roll, offering a rare window into how Selick's animators constructed Sally's physical presence one frame at a time.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading in partnership with National Film Vault, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
