FILM NOTES

Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas was released by Touchstone Pictures in October 1993, produced through Burton's collaboration with director Henry Selick and Skellington Productions. A landmark in stop-motion animation, the film demonstrated that the painstaking frame-by-frame technique could sustain a full theatrical feature with genuine emotional weight. Its gothic visual language and Danny Elfman's score gave it an identity unlike anything else in the Disney family of that era, and it has remained a touchstone of the form.

This cell, titled Santa Jack, captures Jack Skellington in a purple-lit interior space, the skeletal and web-like architectural details of his world visible behind his characteristically elongated silhouette. The three frames represent a single continuous shot with subtle positional variation across them, preserving a quiet, atmospheric moment from the film's practical photographic record on 35mm.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading in partnership with National Film Vault, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
