FILM NOTES

Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas was released by Touchstone Pictures in October 1993, produced through Burton's collaboration with director Henry Selick and stop-motion studio Skellington Productions. The film marked a turning point for feature-length stop-motion animation, demonstrating that the format could sustain a full theatrical narrative with genuine emotional weight. Its distinctive visual language, rooted in German Expressionism and Burton's own illustration work, earned it lasting recognition as a landmark of the form.

This cell, titled Santa Jack, captures a tense confrontation sequence in which Jack faces a large red-limbed creature within a purple-lit lair environment. The cracked walls and wooden structural elements visible across the three frames place the scene deep within the film's most dramatically charged setting, preserving a moment of direct physical opposition that sits at the story's climax.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading in partnership with National Film Vault, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
