FILM NOTES

Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas was released by Touchstone Pictures in October 1993, produced through Burton's collaboration with director Henry Selick and Disney. Shot entirely in stop-motion animation, the film represented a landmark achievement in the craft, requiring years of painstaking frame-by-frame work. Its gothic visual language and Danny Elfman score gave it an enduring cultural presence that few animated films of the decade matched.

This cell, titled Santa Jack, captures Jack Skellington mid-transformation — dressed in his appropriated Santa costume and interacting with a figure suspended by ropes against a deep purple background. The sequence belongs to the film's pivotal act, where Jack fully inhabits his borrowed role. Three frames from the same continuous shot preserve a quietly unsettling moment central to the story's arc.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading in partnership with National Film Vault, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
