FILM NOTES

Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas was released by Touchstone Pictures in October 1993, produced through Burton's collaboration with director Henry Selick and Disney. Shot entirely in stop-motion animation, the film represented a landmark achievement in the craft, requiring years of painstaking frame-by-frame work. Its gothic visual language and Danny Elfman's score gave it a singular identity that has kept it in continuous cultural circulation for over three decades.

This cell, titled Santa Jack, captures Jack Skellington mid-scene in his improvised Santa Claus costume, his signature striped legs visible against a backdrop of red serpentine decorations and a Christmas tree. A small creature appears at the lower edge of the frame. The triple-frame strip preserves a single held moment from what reads as the tense confrontation sequence within Oogie Boogie's lair, offering an unusually intimate look at Jack Skellington's dual identity rendered in original 35mm.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading in partnership with National Film Vault, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
