Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas was released by Touchstone Pictures in October 1993, produced through Burton's collaboration with director Henry Selick and stop-motion studio Skellington Productions. The film marked a turning point for feature animation, demonstrating that the medium could sustain a genuinely dark, gothic sensibility for mainstream audiences. Its handcrafted aesthetic and Danny Elfman score gave it an identity entirely its own, and it has remained a touchstone of 1990s cinema.

This cell, titled Halloween Town Citizens, captures the Mayor of Halloween Town, the Clown with the Tear-Away Face, the Harlequin Demon, and the Werewolf assembled in one of the film's signature gathering sequences. Lanterns punctuate the shadowed foliage while a large stylised creature figure looms overhead, framing the community of Halloween Town in the brooding, theatrical atmosphere that defines the picture.
