Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas was released by Touchstone Pictures in October 1993, produced through Burton's collaboration with director Henry Selick and stop-motion studio Skellington Productions. The film marked a turning point for feature animation, demonstrating that the medium could sustain a genuinely dark, gothic sensibility for mainstream audiences. Its handcrafted aesthetic, built frame by painstaking frame, made every moment of finished footage a product of extraordinary labor.

This cell, titled Halloween Town Citizens, captures a lantern-lit gathering from the film's richly populated ensemble sequences. Visible across the three consecutive frames are the Mayor of Halloween Town, the Clown with the Tear-Away Face, the Werewolf, the Big Witch, the Corpse Kid, and the Tall Witch — a cross-section of Halloween Town's citizenry preserved in original 35mm.
