FILM NOTES

Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas was released by Touchstone Pictures in October 1993, produced through Burton's collaboration with director Henry Selick and stop-motion studio Skellington Productions. The film marked a turning point for feature animation, demonstrating that the painstaking frame-by-frame craft of stop-motion could sustain a full theatrical release with genuine emotional weight. Its visual language, rooted in German Expressionism and Burton's own illustration work, gave it a look unlike anything else in the era's animated landscape.

This cell captures Jack Skellington mid-delivery across the rooftops of Halloween Town, strung with Christmas lights for his ill-fated yuletide mission. The confirmed title Santa Jack places the frame within one of the film's most visually striking sequences, where the angular gothic architecture of Halloween Town is recast in holiday illumination, and Jack's borrowed red costume reads as both earnest and deeply out of place.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading in partnership with National Film Vault, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
