Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas was released by Touchstone Pictures in October 1993, produced through Burton's collaboration with director Henry Selick and Disney. The stop-motion animated feature arrived at a moment when the medium was rarely seen in wide theatrical release, and its gothic visual language and Danny Elfman score gave it an enduring cultural presence that outlasted its initial reception.

This three-frame cell, titled Sally and Halloween Town Citizens, captures Sally within the shadowy amber-lit interior of Halloween Town, with the Mayor appearing alongside her in the third frame. The warm practical lighting against the dark environment is characteristic of the film's carefully constructed atmosphere, and the near-identical framing across frames reflects the deliberate pacing of Selick's stop-motion work.
