Pokémon: The First Movie arrived in the United States in November 1999 through Warner Bros., following Nintendo's card-and-cartridge phenomenon onto the big screen. Produced with Toho and 4Kids' English adaptation, it introduced Mewtwo, a laboratory-born Pokémon whose story of identity and rebellion gave the franchise unexpected emotional weight for a movie aimed at children. The film became a box office success and remains the entry point many fans point to when explaining how Pokémon crossed from television into a genuine cultural moment.
This cell draws from the fortress built by Mewtwo, the stronghold that serves as his sanctuary and the staging ground for his conflict with the world that created him. Mewtwo remains one of the franchise's most sought-after characters, prized for his complexity and his design set apart from the smaller, friendlier Pokémon around him.
