FILM NOTES

Pokémon: The First Movie arrived in North American theaters in November 1999, distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures as the theatrical centerpiece of Nintendo and Game Freak's global phenomenon. Produced by OLM, Inc. and directed by Kunihiko Yuyama, the film represented a landmark moment in anime's crossover into Western mainstream cinema, drawing record opening weekends and introducing a generation of young audiences to the theatrical experience.

This cell, titled Mewtwo's Fortress by the operator, captures a rare overhead composition from deep within the film's climactic interior setting. The framing places Mewtwo as a commanding dark presence in the foreground below, while the trainers and their Pokémon stand small and exposed on the golden arena floor above, the geometry of the shot quietly expressing the imbalance of power between them.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
