Pokémon: The First Movie arrived in North American theaters in November 1999, distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures as a co-production with OLM and 4Kids Entertainment. Adapted from the beloved Nintendo franchise at the height of Pokémon's cultural dominance, the film drew record opening-weekend numbers and introduced a generation of young audiences to theatrical anime. Its themes of identity and conflict gave it a weight that distinguished it from typical franchise tie-ins of the period.
