Warner Bros. distributed Pokémon: The First Movie in North America in November 1999, adapting the phenomenon that had swept trading cards, television, and Game Boy cartridges into a theatrical event. Produced by OLM for Nintendo and Game Freak, the film marked the first feature-length entry in what would become one of the most enduring media franchises in history, drawing audiences well beyond its target demographic.

This cell, titled Team Rocket by the operator, captures the trio in a moment of concealment, pressed against a shadowed structure in the manner that defines their recurring role throughout the film. Their silhouetted posture reflects the comic tension the series consistently wrings from their hapless attempts at surveillance and subterfuge.
