FILM NOTES

Warner Bros. distributed Pokemon: The First Movie in North America in November 1999, bringing Mewtwo's origin story to American audiences at the height of the Pokemon phenomenon. Produced by OLM for Nintendo and Game Freak, the film represented a landmark moment in anime's crossover into mainstream Western cinema, arriving alongside the trading card craze that had already swept playgrounds across the country.

This cell carries the confirmed title Ancient Mew Fossil, a designation that speaks to the film's deeper mythology surrounding prehistoric Pokemon and the origins of Mew itself. The frame presents figures emerging from a warm golden-brown field, the image softened and abstracted by time into something almost painterly, preserving a fragment of that ancient narrative in amber.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
