FILM NOTES

Warner Bros. distributed Pokemon: The First Movie in North America in November 1999, adapting the Japanese theatrical release from the previous year. The film arrived at the peak of the global Pokemon phenomenon and introduced millions of young audiences to theatrical anime, making it a defining cultural artifact of the late 1990s and a significant moment in the mainstreaming of Japanese animation in the West.

This cell, titled Clone Pokemon Battle by the operator, captures the film's climactic arena sequence. Mewtwo is visible in the upper-left corner against the darkened background, while multiple large clone Pokemon occupy the right side of the frame. The composition reflects the scale and tension of the confrontation that serves as the emotional and narrative centerpiece of the film.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
