FILM NOTES

Pokémon: The First Movie arrived in North American theaters in November 1999, distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures as a co-production with Nintendo and 4Kids Entertainment. Adapted from the Japanese original released the previous year, it became a cultural landmark of the late-1990s animation boom, drawing record opening-weekend audiences and cementing Pokémon's crossover from television phenomenon to theatrical event. The film remains a defining artifact of that era's intersection between Japanese animation and Western mainstream cinema.

This cell captures Team Rocket within Mewtwo's laboratory, framing the scene's imposing biomechanical environment with characteristic restraint. The large armored figure dominating the upper frame and the softly lit lavender containment pod below reflect the production's deliberate use of cold, clinical staging to underscore the facility's unsettling purpose. It is a quietly atmospheric frame from one of the film's most visually distinctive settings.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
