Pokémon: The First Movie arrived in North American theaters in November 1999, distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures following its original 1998 Japanese release from OLM and Nintendo. Adapted from the enormously popular Game Boy franchise and animated series, the film marked a cultural milestone, drawing record-breaking opening weekend numbers and introducing theatrical anime to an entire generation of Western audiences.

This cell captures Mewtwo surrounded by a luminous psychic aura against a deep blue background, drawn from what appears to be a continuous sequence within the character's fortress or arena. The consecutive frames reveal subtle animation variation across an otherwise near-identical composition, offering a rare window into the hand-drawn production process behind one of the film's most visually striking figures.
