FILM NOTES

Pokémon: The First Movie arrived in North American theaters in November 1999, distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures following its original Japanese release the prior year. Produced by OLM, Inc. for Nintendo and Game Freak, the film marked the franchise's theatrical debut and became a cultural landmark of late-1990s animation, drawing audiences well beyond the television series' existing fanbase.

This 35mm cell captures Mewtwo in a repeated composition across three frames — the genetically engineered Pokémon rendered in silhouette against a pulsing blue energy sphere, the dark surrounding field giving the image a stark, almost ceremonial quality. The sequence suggests a moment of concentrated psychic power, and the consistent framing across all three frames makes this a cohesive, visually unified piece from one of the film's most iconic characters.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
