FILM NOTES

Pokémon: The First Movie arrived in North American theaters in November 1999, distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures as a co-production between Nintendo, Creatures, Game Freak, and 4Kids Entertainment. Adapted from the Japanese original released in 1998, the film marked the peak of the late-1990s Pokémon phenomenon and remains one of the highest-grossing traditionally animated features of its era, introducing the legendary clone Mewtwo to a generation of young audiences.

This cell, titled Team Rocket in Mewtwo's Lab, captures Jessie, James, and Meowth observing from within Mewtwo's fortress interior, its dark blue biomechanical architecture punctuated by a glowing pink and purple panel. Jessie was voiced by Rachael Lillis, James by Eric Stuart, and Meowth by Maddie Blaustein, also credited as Madeleine Blaustein. The three frames represent a continuous shot from this memorable infiltration sequence.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
