FILM NOTES

Pokémon: The First Movie arrived in North American theaters in November 1999, distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures following its 1998 Japanese release. Produced by OLM, Inc. for Nintendo and Game Freak, the film marked the franchise's theatrical debut and became a genuine cultural event, drawing audiences well beyond the existing fanbase and grossing over 85 million dollars domestically.

This cell, titled Mewtwo and His Clones, captures a continuous four-frame sequence from the storm-shrouded arena sequence at Mewtwo's island fortress. The frames show Mewtwo presiding over an assembly that includes Gyarados, Nidoqueen, Ninetales, and Scyther, rendered against deep shadow and dramatic practical lighting — a visually striking moment from one of the film's most consequential scenes.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
