Warner Bros. distributed Pokémon: The First Movie in North America in November 1999, bringing the globally dominant franchise to the theatrical screen for the first time. Adapted from the Japanese original released in 1998, the film arrived at the peak of Pokémon's cultural saturation and became one of the highest-grossing anime films of its era, introducing a generation of young audiences to feature-length animation from Japan.
